“I was screaming in peoples’ faces that I didn’t know and after the show they’re like ‘what’s your twitter?’”

—Zoe

Zoe (she/they) is a 21 year old from Alabama that I met while in line for Twenty One Pilots in Atlanta, GA. After the tour was over I sent them some questions regarding their life as a stan. Zoe went to every city on the band’s Takeover Tour except LA and Boston.

Stan Culture: How long have you been here?

Zoe: We’ve been in Atlanta specifically for about a week now.

SC: What is your “why” behind following the band on tour?

Zoe: My “why” is I love the connections that I make through the music and the shows and stuff. At one of the shows in Columbus in the back of the pit everyone was just singing and dancing with each other, like I was screaming in peoples’ faces that I didn’t know and after the show they’re like “what’s your twitter?” and we just like become friends instantly. Like Autumn, the longest friend that i’ve had through the pilots for like three years and I convinced her to come on tour with me.

SC: How many times have you seen them total?

Zoe: Oh boy, I think after Takeover tour it’ll be 12.

SC: How would you say their music has impacted your life?

Zoe: That’s a good one…

SC: Do you have a specific song that came to mind when I asked?

Zoe: Right now there’s one, it’s called Mulberry Street and like at the beginning of the song there’s a lyric that’s “keep your bliss” and I just love that part so much, the song is so upbeat it’s good for when I’m anxious or sad about stuff I kinda just throw that on and everything’s like, better.

SC: Have you had any interactions with the band from following them on tour at all?

Zoe: Yeah! I mean technically it’s not Tyler or Josh but it’s the bassist, Skyler, he’s been recognizing me at shows. We carry these little Peppers around, I have one like in a car and I held it up for “Ride” and he aimed the bass at the Peppa and like “shot” it, it was very funny. Also, like fist bumps of course and stuff like that.

SC: What’s the longest you’ve camped for a show?

Zoe: Probably one week for Bluebird in Denver, it was the first show of tour.

SC: Are you sad about tour ending?

Zoe: I definitely am sad about tour ending however I am so excited to sleep in my bed.
